History of AFNY
The Anesthesiology Foundation of New York, Inc., (AFNY) was created in 2011 for the purposes of stimulating, developing, promoting, education and research in subjects germane to the provision of anesthesia care. Additionally, AFNY’s goals include fostering education and research in order to advance the quality of anesthesia care for all. AFNY raises funds from physicians to provide scholarships to physicians (specifically anesthesiologists). These scholarships will defray the cost for these physicians to visit New York and receive training on the latest techniques and breakthroughs in the field of anesthesiology.
The AFNY organization counts on volunteers to solicit funds from their colleagues and for volunteers to assist in the creation of solicitation materials. It was created by members of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc. (NYSSA). AFNY utilizes the PostGraduate Assembly in Anesthesiology (PGA) meeting to train anesthesiologists on the most recent innovations in the field.
AFNY provides educational scholarships to individuals on a case-by-case basis. These scholarships will pay for hotel accommodations, travel, and food. The purpose of these scholarships is to enhance the training and education of anesthesiologists working in depressed economic areas for low wages. All candidates must be medical doctors or doctors of osteopathic medicine. All candidates must have established financial hardships preventing them from attending the PGA for additional training.
